    Your government, inaction…

    Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Are you from Oklahoma or Florida?  Then you must be so proud.
This press release came across CJP’s desk today, and we couldn’t resist passing along what promises to be a truly humiliating event for one of these gentlemen and the states they represent:
“WASHINGTON, D.C. – American Idol Season 8 has nothing on these [...]

Senate’s Lady Count at All-time High

    Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

The Senate lost one woman from its ranks last year when Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) lost her bid for reelection, but it gained two women moments ago as Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Kay Hagan (D-NC) were sworn into office (Hagan actually replaces Dole).
As of today, 17 women serve in the U.S. Senate, not exactly [...]

Family Ties a Common Thread in the Senate

    Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

As Caroline Kennedy receives criticism for having nothing more than a last name to qualify her for the U.S. Senate, what better time to review who, currently serving in the Senate, had a parent or spouse in the family business before getting their start, in no particular order:

    The companies combined are asking for access to $34 billion in loans and financing;
All three CEOs not only drove themselves to D.C. (two said they switched off with a friend), they’ll be [...]

    Friday, November 21st, 2008

We just got word a few hours ago that one of our favorite Janes, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, is all set to accept the post of Secretary of State in President-elect Obama’s new cabinet, making her the nation’s highest diplomat. New York Times has the scoop… [NYT]

    Now on the Senate Floor…

    Thursday, November 20th, 2008

A poignant Senate tradition occurs about this time every two years, when outgoing senators deliver their farewell speeches on the floor of the Senate chamber before they adjourn for the year.  It’s difficult for all who do it, but it can be almost humiliating for lawmakers if they’ve lost their Senate seat in an election.
    As [...]

    Happy Birthday, Ted Stevens!

    Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Ted Stevens celebrates his 85th birthday today, and as a special present, or maybe it’s just a lucky coincidence, the Senate Republican caucus postponed today’s vote to remove him from their ranks.  Although his colleagues remain nonplussed by the senator’s seven recent felony convictions, Sen. Jim DeMint agreed to put off the decision until the [...]
