White House creates “Council on Women and Girls.”

    By admin | March 11, 2009

Today President Obama signed an Executive Order creating the White House Council on Women and Girls.  The group will be headed by White House senior advisor (and Obama BFF), Valerie Jarrett, and is tasked with making sure that “women and girls are treated fairly” by all policies agencies of the federal government.

CJP thinks that’s an idea whose time has come, but we can’t help but wonder if the members of the council will have time to participate.  Behold the list of councilors:  All 15 cabinet secretaries and a handful of other senior White House staff like the Ambassador to the U.N. and the head of the Office of Management and Budget.

We’re a little concerned.  Is Secretary Geithner really going to come to the meetings while the Dow is below 7,000?  Will Robert Gates stop by between meetings with with Joint Chiefs?

Rather than being so cynical, we’ll end on the up note that it’s wecome news that the federal government will formally cast its eye toward the majority of Americans (women), and we’ll also keep a watchful eye on the Council and its progress.
