Dems launch “I’m sorry Rush,” CJP warns of playing with fire.

    By CJP | March 4, 2009

The Janes know we at CJP are strictly non-partisan, so we pass along the following web site, ImsorryRush.com, to highlight it for several reasons.

First, political stunts usually bore us, but the site created by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, complete with an automated apology letter for Republicans to send to Rush Limbaugh after insulting him, strikes us as particularly clever.  Observe:

    “Dear Rush,

“I’m so sorry I called you [choose one- an opportunistic brick thrower; an idiot; ugly.]

“My comments were [choose one- inarticulate; stupid; not even about you.]”

and so on…..the entire letter is HERE.

Second, the website is another layer in Democrats’ broad communications strategy of tagging Mr. Limbaugh as the leader of the Republican Party.

And with that, CJP makes the observation that while Limbaugh is hideously unpoular with Democrats (63% have an unfavorable opinion about him) and not particularly popular with independents (Gallup shows just 25% of indies have a favorable opinion of the man), he has been hitting on fiscal matters near and dear to independents recently.

If Limbaugh is the loudest voice on the economic issues that independents worry about- namely taxes and the size and scope of government- and they agree with his points, if not with his personality, Dems risk sending the indies they need into a briar patch they might not mind so much.

I agree with your comments. I also would like to just say that Rush is receiving a ton of free press.

Ever since Inauguration, Rush has received a ton of press through the White House and now through the DCCC. His ratings have gone up and also put him back in the Republican spotlight. Perhaps the best strategy for the Democrats would be to no longer discuss/attack him.

Rush as the cliche goes, needs to give it up. He’s actually making it difficult for Independents to think republican and whom his party needs for support to win any election. When I hear him fight back, I flinch.

Clearly, appealing to the base of his party is understandable, but why alienate others, that the party needs for a comeback? He has played right into the hands of the Dems. And his party will pay somehow.

The Rush strategy.. is clearly doomed to fail. Where are the grandfathers in the GOP to counsel this out-of control, child?
