It’s time for Tuesday Girl Talk, CJP’s weekly look at lady leaders and other women fighting for equality around the word…
- Cherie Blair (at left) has a message for the Anglican and Catholic churches, which she says marginalize women and treat them as if they’re “invisible.” “Until the churches fully resolve their relationship with the female half of the population, how can they expect Christianity to have a future in the modern world.”  [Times of London]
- The 2010 elections are shaping up to be fertile territory for high-profile female candidates. From potential Cali gov, Meg Whitman, to Senate hopefuls Carly Fiorina, Robin Carnahan (MO) and Jennifer Brunner (OH), it’s a bevy of bi-partisan power seekers.  [Politico]
- After centuries of subjugation and abuse, women in Afghanistan are gaining protections in the slowly changing society in the form of shelters for battered women opened by women.  In a country where forced marriages and beatings occur, a 17-year-old woman said from a shelter, “I don’t know anything about happiness.”   [New York Times]
- In a piece close to our hearts, TV Newser writes about the all-male review that is the networks’ lineup of chief White House correspondents.   NBC’s Andrea Mitchell thinks the male dominance is bigger than just the White House beat, “I’d also like to see women have a chance to anchor more of our broadcasts and take leadership positions in managing our news organization.”
