The Traveling Janes’ Guide to Washington

    By CJP | January 16, 2009

If you were born a traveling Jane, we can only assume you’re on your way to Washington this very weekend to witness the culmination of campaign 2008 with the swearing-in of our next president.

CJP offers a few tips to the ladies hitting the road to come to our nation’s capital next week:

    • Pack your boots.  Even though your zebra ballet flats are super-cute, D.C. in January is not the time to show them off.  You’ll be outside for 10 hours on Tuesday, so while Michelle Obama will be dressed beautifully at the inauguration, accept the fact that you probably will not.   (CJP has *almost* made peace with it.)
    • Pack your patience.   Did anyone complain about the crowds at the “I Have a Dream” speech?  No!  They were just excited to be there, and you will be too, even when you’re walking from Virginia instead of driving (all the bridges are closed, ladies).
    • Pack your virtual pencils.  CJP wants updates from inauguration-bound Janes throughout the day.  Shoot us your musings at jane@citizenjanepolitics.com.

Finally, CJP’s editor, Patricia Murphy, has written up the scoop on the city’s best restaurants, hotels,  and free/ cheap things to do for eco-concious Janes during their Capital visits, now or later.  Check it out at the Mother Nature Network HERE.
