    Happy Birthday, Ted Stevens!

    By CJP | November 18, 2008

Ted Stevens celebrates his 85th birthday today, and as a special present, or maybe it's just a lucky coincidence, the Senate Republican caucus postponed today's vote to remove him from their ranks.  Although his colleagues remain nonplussed by the senator's seven recent felony convictions, Sen. Jim DeMint agreed to put off the decision until the results of Sen. Stevens' re-election race are known.  The final count could come as soon as today.    Even if Stevens is kicked out of the Republican caucus, he could still serve in Congress unless he's removed by a vote of the full Senate.  Only a two-thirds vote could remove the senator from his seat, except losing his election this week, of course.
