Ah, the morning after. We're exhausted from staying up way too late last night watching (and blogging) returns and speeches, and getting up way too early to catch our favorite editor on CNN this morning. But we're excited-- among other things, there was a record turnout yesterday-- so pat yourself on the back for a job well done and for surviving this epic twenty-one month campaign! We're thrilled we were able to help chronicle it all for you along the way!
Top Domestic Story: Election 2008
- As you may have already heard, Americans have spoken, and they've elected Barack Obama as their new President. [NYT]
- However, the final makeup of the Senate is yet to be seen, as four Senate races are still too close to call -- Minnesota, Georgia, Oregon, and Alaska. So far the Dems currently have 56 seats and the Republicans have 40. [CNN]
- In the House, the Democrats are on track to gain 17 seats -- which would give Speaker Pelosi the largest Democratic majority in Congress since 1993. [ABC]
- California's Prop 8, which would outlaw gay marriage in California, is still too close to call as well. [NBC]
Top International Story: Around the world, people are reacting to the election of Barack Obama, many of them in shock and delight. However, Obama already has more challenges in his presidential inbox than any leader has had before: two wars and a global financial crisis, which the world is waiting to see how he will handle.
