 Topping our list of the top ten most exciting Senate races to watch this year is the race in North Carolina between two female candidates: Elizabeth Dole and Kay Hagan. This race has stolen the national spotlight this year for being one of the nastiest, and most hotly contested, races in the nation.
Elizabeth Dole is the incumbent Republican Senator fighting to protect her seat from Democratic challenger Kay Hagan. This seat is one of the key states that the Dems are focusing on because they'll need to win it in order to get their 60-seat majority. Though Dole has a long history in politics and Hagan has much less experience, Hagan is now leading in the polls by about 4 percent.
The campaign has been filled with negative attacks, many centering around which of the candidates believes in God -- including a "Godless" ad released by the Dole campaign, accusing Hagan of accepting money from "godless Americans" and questioning her faith. Hagan asked Dole to yank the ad, which she finally did (after some initial resistance).
Hagan is now suing Dole for defamation of character...yikes.
