Sarah Palin gave her first policy speech as a vice presidential candidate today, describing how a McCain-Palin administration would advocate for children with special needs and their parents. Â She discussed how she felt when she learned that her son, Trig, would have Downs syndrome, and how her sister has advocated for her own son, Karcher, who has autism.
Palin said she would work to increase funding for the NIH to conduct more research into the causes and cures for developmental disabilities, that she would fully fund IDEA (the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), and would advocate for federal funding to follow the child, rather than the school.
