    Voting with your purses

The economic blues have made us increasingly sensitive about our wallets this year, enough to want to cut back our spending as much as we can. But we're thrilled to see that there's one thing Janes across the country aren't cutting back on -- and that's their contribution to the political process! According to a report from the Women's Campaign Forum Foundation, women are giving to political campaigns in larger numbers than ever this year. Here's a few highlights from the report:
    • Donations of more than $200 by women to Presidential campaigns increased from $37 million in 2000 to $115 million in 2004
    • As of mid-September, women had already given $109 million to presidential campaigns and are on track to TRIPLE their total donations from 2000!
    • Women are increasingly making donations online -- and supporting their fellow Janes. Nearly half of online donations made by women go to female candidates.
    • Women online donors are largely new to the political process -- 61% had never given before!
