DATE: October 2, 2008 (our mom’s birthday- happy b’day, MK!)
Ladies. we’d like to bring your attention to the following articles and clips to better prepare you for tonight’s debates. They all shed new light on the veep contenders, just in time for their one, and only, face off. Please peruse:
This A-1 article from today’s “New York Times”, detailing the not-so-average-Joe living accommodations that Sen. Biden and his wife enjoy. With government and college teachers salaries, they’re living large in a 6,500 square foot house on four waterfront acres, valued at $3 million. The unusually tough article also describes how Biden financed the home, as well as the rather sizable debts that he has incurred.
The “Washington Post’s” look at Palin’s life in Alaska, including her parents home stuffed with, “Fox pelts. Orca teeth. Bear fangs. Owl wings. A brown, bony thing with a huge span occupies the living room wall.” The piece details Palin’s childhood, her post-feminist approach to politics and her ultra-competitive nature, “The idea of being in awe of people just isn’t in her nature. She likes an opponent.”
This op-ed in the “Christian Science Monitor,” by Andrew Halcro, an Alaska politician who has debated Palin more than two dozen times. He describes his frustration in seeing Palin answer with generalities, but remain effective nonetheless. “Palin is a master of the non-answer. She can turn a 60-second response to a query about her specific solutions to health care challenges into a folksy story about how she’s met people on the campaign trail who face health care challenges. All without uttering a word about her public-policy solutions to health care challenges.”
Speaking of debate, here’s a quick look at Biden and Palin’s debate styles leading up to tonight. Happy viewing, Janes!
