    Top Domestic Story: Campaign 2008

    • John McCain gave his official acceptance speech last night at the Republican National Convention, describing himself as a fighter who will “fight for you.” [CNN]
    • In light of attacks saying their coverage of Sarah Palin has been biased and sexist, news organizations are responding and defending themselves. “I really do take exception to it,” says NBC News President Steve Capus. [LA Times]
    • As the election remains closely tied at the polls, another question has opened up: which candidate will be able to win over Hispanic voters? [Dallas Morning News]

    Top International Story: Dick Cheney is meeting with Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko today for talks, and at the top of the agenda? Ukraine’s push for NATO membership. [AP]

    Residents of the Atlantic coast are preparing for a possible double whammy as Tropical Storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike approach. [ABC]

    The Abramoff trial has finally come to a close, with former lobbyist Jack Abramoff being sentenced to four years in prison for corruption and tax offenses. [NYT]

    Tivo Alert! Britney Spears is set to open the 25th Annual Video Music Awards on Sunday. “I’m excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated,” Spears said in a statement. We can hardly wait. [NYT]

      I love that the McCain/Palin campaign has been complaining left and right about the “sexist” coverage by the media, but all over the convention floor the night of her speech were men wearing “Hottest VP from the Coldest State” and “Hoosiers for the Hot VP” pins. And now she’s thrown down and is going to have to deal with it. Gloves off. Just start getting down to the issues.
