Will HRC’s Gals Go for Obama?By CJP | August 27, 2008 Janes, meet Janelle, a Texas politca who counted among her best friends the late Texas governor, Ann Richards, and the irreplaceable Molly Ivins. Janelle is a Texas D through and through. She has been a delegate to every Texas Democratic convention since 1976 and has attended four national Democratic conventions. But yesterday she could not bring herself to attend Hillary Clinton’s speech because of the disappointment she’s still feeling. As you’ll see in our interview, Hillary Clinton was not just a candidate to Janelle, and Clinton’s loss was not just a loss. The fact that Janelle and women like her, otherwise sure-fire Democrats, have not yet gotten behind Obama is an unusual, serious problem for him. If Janelle skipped part of the convention this week, is it so hard to imagine women like her might skip the election in November? |
