Top Domestic Story: Campaign 2008
Top International Story: In addition to the human tragedy of the Russia/ Georgia crisis (more than 2,000 civilians have been killed), the economic reality of a compromised Georgia (and endangered oil pipeline there) pushed up the price of oil over the weekend. BP and other oil companies use that pipeline to transport oil out of Azerbaijan, which makes the West less dependent on supplies from Russia. [BBC] Nearly 130,000 people in the Southern Philippines have fled their homes because of military clashes between the Army and Muslim rebels. The rebels want to expand a special Muslim autonomous zone, which the government opposes, and local Christians fear. [BBC] A “Newsweek” writer gives a behind-the-scenes account of meeting John Edwards’ mistress on the campaign trail and knowing something was up. Jonathan Darman says, “The first time I laid eyes on Rielle Hunter, I could tell she was a story.” Kate Middleton can waterski on one ski, too. It just doesn’t seem fair. [Daily Mail] |
