    Rob Portman: Mild Mannered Money Man, Possible Veep

    By CJP | July 28, 2008

    Janes, in our quest to tell you about everyone who could possibly be a vice presidential nominee, we haven't yet gotten around to Rob Portman, a short-lister for John McCain. Here are few deets on the man who used to be in charge of the federal budget:
    • Portman majored in anthropology at Dartmouth, and has a law degree from Michigan;
    • He worked as a lawyer in D.C. and Ohio, and worked in the White House Counsel's office and in legislative affairs for Papa Bush;
    • He was a Congressman from Ohio from 1993 until 2005, when he resigned to join the White House staff as the trade rep, and then as the budget chief;
    • He left the White House in 2007, to spend more time with his family (of course!);
    • Portman could help the admittedly not-great-with-the-economy McCain with his math homework, and his home state of Ohio would be one big catch in November;
    • If you think his resume is vanilla, you haven't seen anything yet:
    To see see CJP's write up on the rest of the short lists, check out Charlie Crist, Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty; Carly Fiorina; and Meg Whitman for McCain, and Joe Biden, Evan Bayh, Sam Nunn, Senator Jim Webb, Kathleen Sebelius, and a lady named Hillary for Obama.   There must be others, so stay tuned, Janes...
