    Is “O-Bayh-ma” the Ticket?

    By CJP | July 16, 2008

We admit the "short list" for V.P. candidates is feeling a little long these days, but CJP will not stop talking about the #2s it until the candidates give up the goods. Up next: Evan Bayh (pronounced "bye"). This two-term senator from Indiana is also a two-term Hoosier governor, giving him the executive experience that most legislators lack. He's also a visible member of the Armed Services and Intelligence committees, so he's known as someone with foreign policy expertise. Other deets on Bayh:
    • His father was the legendary Senator Birch Bayh from Indiana. Birch Bayh helped to pass Title IX, and was a main proponent of the Equal Rights Amendment. Who knew?
    • Evan Bayh went to the same high school as Al Gore, Brit Hume, Harold Ford, Jr., J.W. Marriott and "The Walkmen."
    • Bayh had launched his own exploratory committee to run for president in 2007, but dropped the bid two weeks later, saying the odds were too long for him to win. He then endorsed Hillary Clinton, but is now so on board with Obama that they appeared in Indiana together today.
    • Biggest Pros/ Cons politically...Pro: Indiana is one of the 14 states (some of them long shots) where Obama launched his first round of general election ads. Con: Bayh voted for the Iraq War.
    • Finally, the good news/ bad news about Bayh: He's not going to give Obama any competition in the speech-giving department. Exhibit A: A speech in New Hampshire tagged, "Boring Bayh."
