Top Domestic Story: Campaign 2008
- Hillary Clinton won big last night in West Virginia, with a 67% to 28% rout over Barack Obama. In her victory speech, Clinton said her posse of wins in swing states like West Virginia, Florida and Michigan would make her the best nominee in the fall. The DNC will decide the actual fate of Michigan and Florida at a May 31 meeting. [Charleston Gazette]
- Muscogee, Ok., previously best known for being the hometown of the best friend in "An Officer and a Gentleman," has elected the country's youngest mayor. John Tyler Hammons, a 19-year-old freshman at OU, swept to victory with 70% of the vote. Hammons will stay in college, but says he may transfer to a school closer to his new job. [AP]
- We told you the Republicans might hit the panic button if they lost the Mississippi House race yesterday. Consider the panic button hit. Travis Childers, the Democrat, ran as a pro-life, pro-gun conservative, and cruised to a 54-46 win. A poli-sci professor called it "a huge upset, and an indication of a terrible year ahead for the Republicans.†[New York Times]
Top International Story: As Chinese officials work feverishly to find survivors of the massive earth quake that hit that country, the military government of Myanmar sealed off their own cyclone disaster zone to keep out all outside aid. An unnamed correspondent for the BBC said that one devastated village of 400 people had received just one bag of rice from the government so far. [BBC]
Three men have been sentenced to 15 years in prison for plotting to kill George Bush during his 2006 visit to Jordan. Authorities arrested the men the day before Bush arrived, when they had planned to bomb the American embassy with Bush inside. Yikes. [AP via USA Today]
A new study of 65,000 women revealed that those who exercised when they were teenagers were 23% less likely to develop premenopausal breast cancer. Even if you spent your youth watching "Days of Our Lives" instead of going to lacrosse practice, do pass this on to the teens in your life. [USA Today]

Hillary needs to fight to the finish!!! I still say if she does not get the nomination there will be a republican in the White House on January 20, 2009.
