This is a political ploy and you hit the nail on the head — this isn’t going to change anything prior to November. Drilling, tax-holidays, etc. won’t do anything to bring the price of oil down in the short term. Even if elected and the holiday is enacted, the sudden loss of funds for the nation’s woefully underfunded roads and bridges will be evident.

I think what’s hitting us now is the realization that energy ain’t cheap, especially when you’ve got burgeoning nations clamoring over it. Add to the equation that it’s a nonrenewable resource that’s being produced at capacity, and the truth takes hold.

We’ve got to invest in alternatives. We were riding high for a long time on cheap gas, turning our noses at mass transit, and now we gotta catch up.
