Florida and Michigan are adults. They knowingly disobeyed the DNC rules and now must face the consequences. We teach our children that there are always consequences with our decisions throughout our lives and we have to learn to live with those consequences. What example would seating these delegates set for our children? So, does John Edwards return if Florida & Michigan decide to pay for a primary or caucus? This really smacks of dirty politics.

Democrats have a decision to make. Do they seat the delegates from Florida and Michigan or do they continue to deny them? Do they want to be “right” in their minds, or do they want to win? I’m not sure the Democrats can win without Michigan and Florida, and I’m certain the voters in these states will feel alienated from the party if their votes aren’t counted.

If we want to know where all the rhetoric about FL and MI’s votes needing to “count,” we need to look no further than HRC’s campaign. I’m still undecided, but I have to say that Obama (and Edwards, for that matter) abided by the DNC’s decision and did not campaign there, and in fact, removed their names from the MI ballot (it had been too late for anyone to remove his/her name from the FL ballot). Hillary clearly “faux campaigned” there, what with her campaign fundraisers and her “faux” victory party. Thus–unfair advantage for her in FL (she essentially campaigned), and unfair advantage for her in MI (only name on the ballot). UGH! Surely someone from her campaign will pen a tell-all book in 2009 and spill the beans about stirring up the FL and MI mess. I like Kay’s (above) analogy to laying down a rule for a child, watching the child break the rule, and then responding to the child’s request that you change or remove the consequences. Horrible precedent.
