    Fact-Check Friday

    By CJP | February 22, 2008

check-mark.jpg Do you know where the phrase "the truth hurts" came from? We don't either, but it must have come from an experience similar to reading through the websites that fact-check the statements of candidates, like the Tour of Truth we take every week. Today brings half-truths, almost-truths and outright lies. Ouch! Yes, the truth hurts, but that's no reason not to know it. Now onto the Tour:
    • Did Obama really want to bomb-bomb-bomb Pakistan, as John McCain alleges ? PolitiFact says no. McCain is wrong on that one.
    • The Clinton and McCain campaigns are hammering Obama for indicating that he may go back on his pledge to commit to public financing, meaning there would be limits to what he can raise and spend in the general election. Obama's campaign now says he never made that promise. The Fact-Checker at "The Washington Post" says Obama is wrong and gets two Pinocchios.
    • FactCheck.org changes it up today and has a few Q&As on frequently lied-about items in Washington. One item tells us that the only illegal use for leftover campaign funds is for the candidate's personal use, so if your retiring Congressman shows up in a Bentley to his retirement ceremony, it's time to start asking questions.
