    The CJP Mail Bag

    By CJP | February 13, 2008

mail_bags.jpg We get so much great mail, it just feels selfish keeping it to ourselves. We’ve decided to pass along a few excerpts from some of our favorites lately.

Some of the emails are just nothing but wonderful:

    • Emily wrote, “This is the first time I’ve gotten involved in the political process and it feels great! A website like yours is a great tool for a woman like me and I plan on visiting often.”
    • Carrie said, “I am in desperate need of political education. Please put me on the Daily Jane list. By November, I should be ready and able to vote with the stealthy skill of a political ninja : )”

Sheila wrote in to share what she calls her, “loud-mouthed opinion on the election.”

    • “I hate to say it — I’m a woman myself — but I really think too many women are voting with their “feelings” instead of with their brains. I want my president to keep our country safe. I want the government to stop getting bigger and bigger and taking away more and more of my freedoms and my money. I don’t want the government to provide everything to me from cradle to grave, I want the government to get the hell out of my daily life and leave me alone.”

A few sometimes-nice readers tell of of our grammatical shortcomings, which hurts, as CJP was once a magazine editor:

    • “As I was reading your site, I noticed the following: “McCain is renown for his war on pork-barrel spending. He advocates slashing federal pending. along with keeping current tax rates permanently.” (This was helpful- thanks!)
    • “It’s “…I don’t care whom you vote for..” not “who you vote for…” As a Columbian you should know that.” (We couldn’t help noticing that our gentle reader’s email to us contained a few doozies, too.)

    Someone named “livingproof” wrote:

    • “CJP, Guess I missed all the coverage of Ron Paul’s campaign……..You’re not here for me.” (We sent livingproof links to our posts from going to New Hampshire to interview Dr. Ron Paul.)

And who could forget this gem?

    • “Idiot.”

Janes, as always, feel free to send thoughts, opinions, suggestions, grammatical observations and whatever strikes you to jane@citizenjanepolitics.com.

      Hi Janes & CJP Editor,
I need some feedback about something that I heard on the radio in Atlanta. After the primary vote here, a caller into the radio station said that, although she was a black woman, she did not vote for Obama for his own protection. She said that one school of thought out there in the black community was that if Barack were elected as President, that he would be a likely target for assasination, so he is losing votes in order to save him from harm later on. Is that a real thing or was the caller making much adoo about nothing or just getting publicity for her own thoughts?

Ah, the masses can be so unkind! You are certainly not an idiot (although such brevity has to be admired on some level). My 17-year-old daughter and I enjoy your blog too much every day. Thank you for your insight and humor.
