Top International Story: A 12-year-old American girl has been rescued in the jungles of Panama, where she was the sole survivor of a plane crash on Sunday. She had been traveling with a friend and her friend’s father, a California hedge fund manager and founder of a company that eventually became Yahoo! Groups. Rescuers had been looking for the plane for more than two days and had to care for her in a make-shift hut until weather allowed them to make the three-hour trek to safety. The EEOC has ruled that companies can cut health benefits of retirees over 65 without running afoul of age discrimination laws. The court said employers need the flexibility, but they recognized “with some dismay” that some people over 65 may be adversely affected.
