The commercials have been cut on the issues with care, with hopes that the voters will soon be aware. Of their stances on taxes, on defense, on pre-K and Cuba, on health care, on Medicare, on Iraq and loose nuke-as. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all, Janes! Here’s today’s chance to be the smartest elf in the shop….

    Top International Story: Thaksin Shinawatra, the exiled former Prime Minister of Thailand and current owner of the Manchester City Football Club, is poised to return to Thailand and resume power in the wake of national elections that put his party back in power. The first comment on the story in the Times of London is from “Ian”, a Manchester football fan, who “I hope this does not mean that ‘Frank’ will be selling my beloved Blues and moving on.”

    Top Domestic Story: Campaign ‘08:

    • In the battle for local endorsements. Mitt Romney has lost one, big. The Concord Monitor says Romney is “a disquieting figure who sure looks like the next president and most surely must be stopped.” [Concord Monitor]
