Single Women: Finally a Commitment You Can Live With!

    By CJP | November 28, 2007

wedding-generic.jpg If you are single or ever have been single (and that’s everybody), you know commitment can be scary. What if you change your mind? What if the man you pick turns out to be someone else entirely? What if you get what you think you want (like someone who is fun to drink beers with), and it ends up you wanted the wrong thing? It’s true– voting for president has never been more fraught with peril.

Maybe that fear of commitment is what is kept 20 million single women away from the polls in 2004. Or maybe it’s the fact that young professional single women are highly mobile, single moms are highly busy and single grannies don’t drive anymore, so getting to a polling station is tougher than it used to be.

Is anyone paying attention to the plight of ladies on their own? In fact, yes. Women’s Voices. Women Vote, featured on CJP’s “Extra Credit” page, is a non-profit dedicated to registering and increasing turn-out among you single women.

And you know who else cares about you? CJP. Not only will we have an interview next week with WV.WV’s founder, Page Gardner,

our “Ready to Vote” page is specifically designed for the highly mobile, the highly immobile and the highly babies-don’t-get-raised-by-the-baby-fairy among us.

We’ll also be alerting you to the registration deadlines for each state, so if you live in Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky or anywhere else, you’ll hear it from CJP that is your deadline is looming. Finally, the “Ready to Vote” page is for busy moms and stationary grannies, who can plan ahead and click on their state to find out about absentee voting and early voting where they live.

Single Janes, forget committing to a man! Commit to yourself and your future. Resolve that: today you will register to vote, tomorrow you will find out more about the candidates (see CJP’s “Candidate Compare” for that) and in 2008, you will vote. And guess what? This commitment doesn’t smoke cigars or watch “SportsCenter” during “Project Runway.” What could be better than that?
